Santa Cruz, CA motorcyclist Liza M. shares her tales of riding in far-off countries and her busy schedule closer to home — between her moto-centric podcast, film festivals, and garage, we're just happy she had time to answer our questions!
How long have you been riding, which bikes have you owned, and how did you become interested in riding?
I've been riding 42 years, and have had a long list of bikes. I currently have a Honda Africa Twin DCT, KTM 990 SMT, KTM 690 Enduro, 2 Kawasaki KLR 650's, 87 Honda Elite 250, 75 Kawasaki KZ400, and a 79 Yamaha XS750 Street Tracker.
What moto trips have you taken (long or short). Where did you go, stay and explore? Tell us some highlights.
I've been across the United States three times on a motorcycle, but my favorite ride is the Karakoram Highway in Pakistan. I will be leading a group of women riders once again this September around northern Pakistan. We will ride up to the border of China at Khunjerab Pass, the highest international border crossing in the world, which is at 15,400 ft.
What hobbies do you enjoy when you're not riding?
Making YouTube videos, producing the Rev Sisters Moto Film Festivals (showcasing films for moto lovers and giving novice filmmakers an opportunity to shine), running the Re-Cycle Garage (with its goal of getting old motos back on the road and to teach people to fix them and keep them running), and the Motorcycles & Misfits Podcast (check this out, if you haven't yet!).
What do you enjoy about being part of the Twisted Road community?
I love having a selection of different bikes to choose from when I travel. It makes the adventure that much more fun.
What are your favorite biker friendly places around your hometown?
Alice's Restaurant, Gizdich Pie Barn, and the Corralitos Sausage Market. Live to Ride, Ride to Eat is our motto.
What are your favorite rides near your hometown?
Pacific Coast Highway through Big Sur, and for a little dirt action, cut off the highway and onto the Old Coast Highway just at the Bixby Bridge.
What location is on your moto trip bucket list?
Off-roading in Baja, and a pub crawl through England.
