Custom builders push the boundaries of what motorcycles can look, feel, and sound like — as well as how they perform. With ingenuity, innovation and imagination, custom motorcycle builders modify bikes off the factory floor or build them from the engine out to create one-of-a-kind machines. These metal masters of Instagram might inspire you to get out your sketchbook and start creating a dream bike of your own (or to at least contact one of these artisans to start your own custom motorcycle build).

1. Mike Le

Mike Le had a vision and that vision became a reality in Kinetic Motorcycles. This team aims to create art on wheels through innovation, creativity, and function.

2. Maxwell Hazen

New Yorker Maxwell Hazen moved across the country to Los Angeles where started Hazan Motorworks. Each new motorcycle build is crafted with his own two hands. Maxwell pushes himself to create interesting and elegant motorcycles that are 1-of-1.

3. Duc Tran of DT Motoworks

Vietnam-born BMW enthusiast Duc Tran grew up around motorcycles. When a friend sold him a motorcycle he took it apart and began to shape it to his taste and style, while still respecting the classic collectible history. That build was accepted into the Handbuilt Motorcycle Show held annually in Austin, Texas. Keep an eye out for this self-taught, weekend, garage builder.

4. J Shia

Internationally-recognized, award-winning custom motorcycle builder J Shia established Madhouse Motors. The motorcycle repair shop specializes in antique and custom machines. She is known for creating motorcycles that often break stereotypical motorcycle molds.

5. Adam & Hugo of Untitled Motorcycles (UMC)

In 2010, Adam and Hugo founded Untitled Motorcycles (UMC) and have built over 100 custom bikes for clients around the world,  from their workshops in London and in San Francisco. UMC bikes have been featured globally in print, film, and online in publications including Playboy, GQ, Cycle World, BikeEXIF, and Jay Leno's Garage.

6. Colt Wrangler

Defining the future of cool in custom bike building throughout Texas, Colt Wrangler is known affectionately as the rasta-redneck-Yoda of custom motorcycle building.

7. Analog Motorcycles

Analog Motorcycles offers customization of everything from small accessory installs to full custom bike builds, powder coating, fabricating, and everything in between. They can build your dream bike from the engine out or you can bring in your current bike for a design overhaul.

8. Krausmoto

Krausmoto takes the idea of breaking free — both in design and on the road — very seriously by forging their own path. They believe in maintaining a healthy respect for tradition in world-class, precision-engineered performance motorcycle parts and accessories.

9. Craig Rodsmith

Owner of Rodsmith Motorcycles, Australian-born Craig Rodsmith is a master builder, fabricator, painter, and designer of custom masterpieces ranging from motorcycles to cars, in styles from traditional to a punk rock. Three of Craig’s custom masterpieces are featured at The Haas Moto Museum in Dallas.
