The ever-growing city of Austin, Texas, has an appealing culture that is something for almost everyone. Known for being moto-friendly with nightlife and nature in balance with technology and start-ups (so many, in fact, that the city has been dubbed "Silicon Hills"). Austin has been voted the number one city in the US to live in more than a few times.
And for MotoGP and Formula 1 fans, nothing beats a stop at the Circuit of the Americas during race weekends!
With the recent pandemic, many people have been moving away from major metropolitan hubs, like San Francisco and New York, and into places with fewer people and more edge.
Austin is now the place to be, with property values soaring while the BBQ gets more tender and the music keeps playing. Regardless, it's still an amazing place to ride, and Hill Country (one of the greatest places to ride in the country) is only an hour away.
We scoured the city for places to eat, ride, shop, and rent a motorcycle in Austin and saw all that this booming city offers.
1. The Continental Club
The Continental Club went from a private supper club to a burlesque club, to a blue-collar bar, and to the live music venue it is today. This Texas-sized venue hosts live roots, rockabilly, country, swing, rock, and blues music every day of the week.
2. Revival Cycles
Revival Cycles creates beautiful custom leather moto accessories in-house. In addition, they can supply all you need to customize your motorcycle build.
In addition, Revival hosts the internationally known Handbuilt Motorcycle Show, a showcase for and by builders that will next take place April 12-14, 2024, during MotoGP weekend.
Check out Revival's bikes available for rent in Austin on Twisted Road.
3. The Lost Well
Bringing people together over their love of music and motorcycles and meeting other good people are the main goals of this rockin' neighborhood bar in Austin.
They are currently serving up plant-based comfort food from Arlo's Curbside—that pairs surprisingly well with a frosty beer.
4. Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop
Noted as the place to begin—or end—your "Twisted Sisters" road adventure. If you haven't heard of it before and are thinking of traveling to Austin, consider a ride on this 100-mile loop through the heart of Texas Hill Country. Twisted Sisters' terrain is some of toughest in Texas, filled with canyons, bluffs, and winding rivers.
Before going on a ride like this, you're going to need to fuel up your bike (and yourself). Good news…Bent Rim Grill fits the bill perfectly.
5. Bent Rim Grill
Check out this restaurant's amazing burgers. Menu item names like "Fat Bob," "Road King," and "Victory" should tell you there's plenty of room to park your motorcycle while you fill your belly.
6. Cidercade
What do you get when you cross 48 taps of 24 different hard ciders, kombuchas, and seltzers with artisan thin-crust pizza, over 150 arcade games, and a lakeside patio? Ciderade! The list of arcade games from new to vintage is epic. So grab a competitive friend and head over this gamers dream stop.
Twisted Road Tip: This arcade does not take coins or bills. So bring your credit card.
7. Quack's 43rd Street Bakery
This bakery feeds the early birds their warm cup o' joe and muffins, as well as the night owls needing an espresso shot and a cookie. Cupcakes, pies, croissants, scones, sticky buns and more—all made fresh from scratch at this sweet spot.
8. Sean's Cycle Shop
With 31 years of professional motorcycle repair experience, this shop offers affordable and efficient motorcycle service, repair, and parts. Stop in for an oil change, moto customization, after-market part installation, and more.
Twisted Road Tip: Lane splitting is illegal in Texas—you must use a separate lane to pass other vehicles and cannot ride between lanes. One Austin-specific law that’s particularly moto-friendly, though, is free parking—a motorcycle can be parked free of charge at Austin city meters, for up to 12 hours.
